Hats, scarves and gloves ready for school children!

Image
It was 2 weeks ago that I dropped off some blankets for the school kids, and now, I have just finished the sets for the kids and will be dropping them off come the morning.  30 sets of hats, scarves and gloves. I also made 6 extra hats and paired them with gloves. Now, I am going to take a break for a little bit.

So, I have sent 30 hats to Union Hospital for the cancer patients and now I am working on hat and scarves for the students at the Elementary School near me.  I currently have 21 sets complete and I think I have 5 spare hats.

Stitch Pray & Crochet 4 Cancer The beginning I started on May 19th of 2019 as way to remember my father, a WWII veteran, who had skin cancer. May 19th was his birthday, and for my mother who had breast cancer. So many people in our lives are touched by cancer, out parents, our children, siblings. It is not just one person who feels its affects, it is everyone around them. You can see it on their face, in their sigh, or in the unspoken words that fail to capture the pain that they feel. This Charity, is a way to give hope and warmth to those who need it, to show that someone understands and loves you. I have been there, with my parents, I know how you feel. It is hard to keep your head up, to go on when you feel like the earth is opening up and swallowing you whole. But YOU ARE NOT ALONE! There are thousands of other people out there going through the same thing you are. Others have already been through it. It is NOT something that you can or should go through alone! One blanke...

As of July, I have made more than 125 blankets for Cancer patients. That does not include the many hats, stuffed animals and misc items that I have made in-between. I have crocheted since I was 25 and I hope to be doing so for many years to come!

This lovely  was created by a local business, West Coast Airbrush. Many thanks to them and to all of the people who have helped me to get this charity going! First Farmersburg Presbyterian Church Karen Carlson and her daughter Kim Ann Klotz and so many others!

I asked Cheryl with Union Hospital Volunteer Services what was really needed. She said that hats would be a good item to donate.  So, I made 30 hats and one ear warmer, I am still learning how to make those. I then called a local school that is very close to my home, and asked about their needs. I donated about 8 to 15 blankets and I am currently working on hats and scarves for the kids at Ouabache Elem.

This is Cheryl, she works at Union Hospital in Volunteer Services, and today I gave her some blankets for cancer patients. This was taken earlier this year, I donated back in February as well as in July.

Today is the day... Updated: Jul 18 updated Nov. 10th Today, I finally decided to make a blog. The road from the beginning has not been difficult, because I always knew that there was something I wanted to do, but it was one of being unsure. I was unsure that this was the path I wanted to take, I mean how many others were out there making blankets for cancer patients? I did not know. Would the hospitals even allow me to make donations? I thought, well if they do not, then where do I take them? There is a need in homeless shelters. Which I have made hats and scarves for in the past. I also gave some to the local police, to stave off the cold while they were on patrol. I am thankful that I have a place to donate to, but sadden at the thought of so many in need.  Many times I have  thought, prayer is what is needed as I stitch another stitch, so I pray as I crochet. Then when the blanket is complete, I take it and the many others I have done to be prayed over by our c...

The Meditative effects of Crochet First a bit of history... The history of yarn art, believe it or not, in relation to crochet began in the 16th century. Crochet is not nearly as old as knitting, knitting began in or around the 5th century. The Vikings left pieces in many of the bogs of Northern Europe, and some are dated between 800-1066, to the Vikings it was known as "looping" or Nalbinding. For some people, the thought of sitting still quietly in a room without sight or sounds is quite bothersome. When meditating with their eyes closed, breathing slowly in and out and chanting a mantra is just not their cup of tea. When you learn to crochet, it is so easy to get to a place where you no longer need to look at your work, but you can watch TV or read a book as you crochet along your project. You can even meditate as you crochet, just by counting or repeating the pattern as you go. But imagine if you will, you have your needle and yarn and you are sitting in your favor...
